Governor Manuel Rosales of Zulia state, who has been under siege after allegations that he had been in contact with groups wanting to separate the state from the rest of Venezuela, hit back at his critics.
Rosales, the only remaining state governor to hail from the opposition, claimed that the government was issuing national identity documents — cedulas — to paramilitaries, guerrillas and other groups.
The meeting was also attended by former Zulia state Governor Francisco Arias Cárdenas, who was a comrade in arms with Chávez during the failed coup attempt in 1992.
