Cultural Heritage | Žumberak - Samobor Mountains Nature Park
The name “Zumberak” itself it thought to be connected to the name of the Sichelberg fortress (Zumberak Old Town), which is then linked to the shape of the Zumberak mountains, which are shaped like a sickle (in German, die sichel = sickle, der Berg = hill).
Thus the name Zumberak could have got its name either by changing the name Schönberg into a slavic version “Zemberk”, today “Zumberak” or from the word Sichelberg which would be pronounced Zumberk, which is also close to its name, as it is today.

Samobor to the Zumberak : Introduction | Frommers.com
You'll find that contemporary Samobor looks like an 18th-century postcard with its flower-bedecked pastel buildings and copper-domed church, but during medieval times, the town was a hub for trades- and craftsmen who made a living with their hands.
By contrast, the Zumberak is a vast area of forests, hills, rustic villages with almost no visible signs of tourism activity, and vestiges of the Greek Orthodox culture that once thrived there.
The northern part of the Zumberak is more mountainous than the southern part, where the landscape gives way to hillside vineyards in the Plesivica wine region.
