Zuo Zhuan (Duke Huan of Lu, 6th year) put aside the outworn traditional ideas which attached importance to Heaven, minimized the value of human beings, and advocated the position that affairs in heaven were determined by human beings.
For example, Zuo Zhuan said, "To go out, behaving as if you were receiving guests, and to bear a task, as if you were offering sacrifices, are the details of Ren" (The Duke Xi 33rd year).
The situation at that time was described by Zuo Zhuan: "Zhou’s imperial court had already collapsed and its descendants lost their status day by day" (the Duke of Yin 11th year).

 Lienu zhuan Editorial Notes
Compiled toward the end of the Former Han dynasty (202 B.C.- A.D. 9), Liu Xiang's (79-8 B.C.) Lienu zhuan [Traditions of Exemplary Women, hereafter abbreviated as LNZ] is the earliest extant book in the Chinese tradition solely devoted to the moral education of women.
Most of Liu's book is comprised of materials found in earlier texts, such as the Zuo zhuan and the Guoyu.
Nevertheless, prior to Liu Xiang's effort, no special attempts appear to have been made to educate women in Confucian subjects and there is no evidence that a special curriculum existed to instruct women in their duties.

 Sun Tzu's Effect on History
During this period most famous Chinese philosophers arose: Lao-Tzu, the author of the Tao Te Ching, Confucius, Motzi, and, though seldom recognized as such, Sun Tzu.
The work that describes the history of the Spring and Autumn era is the Zuo Zhuan (commentary by Zuo on the Chun Qiu, the Chinese name for the era).
Much of this work seems to be early writing, though some comments and prophecies may have been put in as late as the middle of the fourth century BC.
