 Zvornik, Bosnia and Herzegovina
Zvornik is a city on the Drina river in northeastern Bosnia and Herzegovina, located southwest of Tuzla and north of Srebrenica.
Zvornik is one of the oldest cities in Bosnia, being first mentioned in the year 1410, although it was known as Zvonik ("bell tower") at that time.
During the Ottoman occupation, Zvornik was the capital of the Zvornik sanjak (an administrative region), which was a result of the city's crucial role in the economy and the strategic location.

B-24 recounted that a delegation of Serbs from Zvornik went to Belgrade and spoke to the head of a Serbian parliamentary body called the Committee for Serbs Outside Serbia, which was headed by Radmilo Bogdanovic, Milosevic’s former minister of the interior.
B-24 said the attack on Zvornik was part of a larger plan to carve out a Serb republic in Bosnia, and that much of the operation was explained to him at a secret SDS meeting in Sarajevo in December 1991.
Zvornik Serbs, he said, were instructed to create a Serb-only police force and local administration.

The unit was stationed in the village of Celopek north of Zvornik, with a number of tanks located in the industrial district of Karakaj and proceeding towards the Zvornik city limits (to the precinct of Meterize) when the attack began.

Lieutenant Colonel Dragan Obrenovic, commander of the Zvornik Brigade of the Srpska Republic (RS) Army was arrested by four officials of the Hague Tribunal, on Sunday in Zvornik, Radio B92 reported, quoting police sources in Zvornik.
During the war in Bosnia, Obrenovic was chief of the RS Army Zvornik Brigade, which had entered Srebrenica in July 1995, along with all the other units under the command of General Ratko Mladic.
The former Zvornik Regiment commander was arrested yesterday in a nearby village having just eaten lunch at his father's house.

Three persons interviewed told of a mass execution of male prisoners from Trnopolje who had been taken on a convoy towards Bosnian lines (apparently to be released); all of the approximately 250 men in the convoy were taken off, lined up and shot; 11 survived and eventually found their way to a Bosnian- Muslim zone.
On arriving in Zvornik, Muslims were told that they must register their property.
