		on 23rd September at which veteran Comrades Marathon runner Zwelitsha Gono and three times winner and record holder Frith van der Merwe were announced as the recipients of the 2005 Harmony Spirit of Comrades Awards.
		Zwelitsha Gono has completed 32 Comrades Marathons to date, two of which were run “unofficially” prior to 1975 when the race was opened to all races and both sexes.
		The 2005 Harmony Spirit of Comrades Awards were thus presented to Zwelitsha Gono for courage and perseverance, Frith van der Merwe for achievement and excellence, and Lucas Nonyana for character and perseverance.

	Premier's Office Honours the Elderly
		A fun-day for the elderly was held at the OR Tambo hall in Zwelitsha on September 9th to restore their sense of belonging in the community.
		Assistant Communications Director in the Premier's office, Lynnete Skriker, said the aim of the event was to pay tribute to the lives of the elderly and facilitate their full participation in their communities.
		She said the function, which was attended by Buffalo City Mayor Sindisile Maclean, started at 11am with a fun walk from the Zwelitsha Zone 1 Taxi Rank, past the police station and end at the OR Tambo hall.

		Johannesburg - Protesters gathered outside Zwelitsha magistrate's court on Tuesday to protest against the bail application of eight initiates charged with gang-raping a 27-year-old woman last week, police said.
		The accused had recently graduated from initiation school in Zwelitsha and allegedly raped the woman to remove a white substance (ifutha) used by initiates.
		The community needs to be educated on these matters," she said.
