Advanced Audio Coding - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
AAC was designed as an improved-performance codec relative to MP3 (which was specified in MPEG-1) and MPEG-2 Part 3 (which is also known as "MPEG-2 Audio" or ISO/IEC 13818-3).
AAC is a wideband audio coding algorithm that exploits two primary coding strategies to dramatically reduce the amount of data needed to convey high-quality digital audio.
AAC, which was first specified in the standard known formally as ISO/IEC 13818-7, was published in 1997 as a new "part" (distinct from ISO/IEC 13818-3) in the MPEG-2 family of international standards.

Formed in 1978, the American Adoption Congress is a nonprofit national organization of search groups and individuals interested in changing legislation, attitudes and policies in order to guarantee access to identifying information to all adopted individuals and their birthparents and adoptive families.
The organization comprises 11 regions, and according to the AAC, its 1,500 members include agencies, search/support groups and individuals, such as adopted adults, birthparents, adoptive parents, siblings, and adoption mental health, medical and legal professionals, throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, Mexico, Australia and New Zealand.
The AAC holds one national conference each year; regional and local conferences are also held.

 OVOLAB - About AAC
AAC, which stands for Advanced Audio Coding, part of the MPEG-4 specification, is a powerful, high-quality audio codec designed to compress audio files to smaller sizes than MP3, while delivering a better quality.
According to Apple, expert listeners have judged AAC audio files compressed at 128 kbps (stereo) to be virtually indistinguishable from the original uncompressed audio source, whereas MP3 files at the same bitrate (taking up the same amount of space on your disk) contain audible artifacts.
AAC audio files are supported by iTunes 4 and the iPod.

AAC means "Advanced Audio Coding", and in the beginning it was also called MPEG-2 NBC for "Non-Backwards Compatible" as opposed to the MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 BC (with 5.1 channels) standards.
This became more obvious with the standardization and implementation of HE AAC / aacPlus, as the older extensions were also aiming at a higher coding efficiency for low bitrates, but mostly for special purposes like speech coding.
Transparent quality is possible which means that most of the test samples are indistinguishable from the original for most of the listeners (term defined by the EBU in 1991 and statistically implemented in their formal listening tests since then).
