Adjacent - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Adjacent is an adjective meaning contiguous, adjoining or abutting.
In geometry, adjacent sides of a polygon join at their vertex.
adjacent is when 2 lines of a shape are joined to eachother.

Adjacent vertex - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In graph theory, an adjacent vertex of a graph is a vertex that is connected to another vertex with an edge within a graph.
Vertex 4 is adjacent to vertices 3, 5, and 6 but it is not adjacent to 1 and 2.
When all adjacent vertices are tabulated for each vertex in a graph, an adjacency matrix can be formed to show this information.

Helicopters firing from an adjacent hex are indeed considered adjacent for firing modifiers, even if they are presumably higher than the target at the same time.
A Huey in 3I1 is adjacent to a unit in 3H2 (or 3I1).
But if we are to consider choppers as to be adjacent, whatsoever the level they are, then it easier to do just as you said and consider any adjacent units as, well, adjacent, except in buildings.

 Non-adjacent form
For regular binary representations of values, half of all bits will be non-zero, on average, but with NAF this drops to only one-third of all bits.
Because every non-zero value has to be adjacent to two 0's, the NAF representation can be implemented such that it only takes a maximum of m + 1 bits for a value that would normally be represented in binary with m bits.
The non-zero bits in NAF will toggle between 1 and −1 when examined from left-to-right or right-to-left — that is, if a bit of 1 is encountered, the next non-zero bits on the left and right will be −1 and vice versa.

adjacent   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-20)
Definition: Two vertices of a graph are adjacent if there is an edge between them.
Two edges of a graph are adjacent if they connect the same vertex.

Adjacent Angles   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-20)
The answer depends on your definitions of both "angle" and "adjacent angles." I would define an angle to be the measure of the rotation about the vertex that brings the first arm of the angle into the second.
I would then define two angles to be adjacent if (a) they share the vertex and (b) the second arm of the first angle coincides with the first arm of the second angle.
Most modern texts allow angles to exceed 180 degrees, so that it would make good sense to have a straight angle adjacent to another angle, as long as they share a vertex and have a common arm that lies between the two outer arms.

Adjacent tissues (cartilage, bone) affect the functional integration of engineered calf cartilage in vitro.
An in vitro model was used to test the hypothesis that culture time and adjacent tissue structure and composition affected chondrogenesis and integrative repair in engineered cartilage.
Engineered constructs were comprised predominately of hyaline cartilage, and appeared either closely apposed to adjacent cartilage or functionally interdigitated with adjacent bone due to interfacial deposition of extracellular matrix.
Integrative repair was better for constructs cultured adjacent to bone than cartilage, in association with its solid architectural structure and high GAG content, and best for constructs cultured adjacent to DB, in association with its high diffusivity.

Adjacent houses, on the other hand, can have a space between them or even be on opposite sides of the road, as long as there is nothing significant between them (such as another house) and they are close enough for you to pass easily from one to the other.
Adjacent tables are next to each other but not necessarily touching.
Note also that adjoining, being a form of a verb, can govern an object (the house adjoining ours), whereas adjacent needs the addition of to (the house adjacent to ours).

Jenness Enterprises - ArcView Extensions;  Dissolve Adjacent Polygons
Combine with either largest or smallest adjacent polygon, or with polygon with longest adjacent border: You may specify which larger polygon you want your small polygons to be combined with based on the size or border length of the adjacent polygons.
Two options for "Adjacent": This extension allows you to define "adjacent" as meaning that the two polygons share either a common border or a common point.
If this is the case, the extension will skip this polygon and insert a note in the report stating that this polygon had no adjacent polygons and therefore could not be combined with any.

Back.com - FAQs - Will fusing my spine cause damage to adjacent areas?
This is the main reason that spinal surgeons attempt to limit the amount of levels that they fuse to the levels that are the ones causing the problem.
The percentage chance of another level degenerating is a subject of some study now in the medical research literature and it is not clear whether or not this adjacent level deterioration is a natural process of aging or if it is truly related to the need for the performance of a fusion.
If however, there is a significant adjacent level disease, then surgery of the spine might increase the rate of degeneration of these other levels.

Mass balance of adjacent debris   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-20)
To accurately determine mass balance ablation stakes were placed in both the debris covered and adjacent clean ice areas of the glacier.
Previous researchers have noted the ablation rate of adjacent clean and debris covered areas of a glacier (Nakawo and Young, 1981; Sturm et al., 1986; Rogerson et al., 1986); however, this study provides a long-term record of comparison of the influence of two different types of debris cover on ablation.
Long-term measurement of ablation on adjacent clean and debris-covered glacier ice in the North Cascades indicates a reduction in observed annual ablation of 0.8-1.0 m/a of water equivalent per year.
