  The History of Bexhill-on-Sea
In 1276 a large portion of Bexhill was made into a park for hunting and in 1447 Bishop Adam de Moleyns was given permission to fortify the Manor House.
Bexhill was the last town in Sussex to be incorporated and it was the first time a Royal Charter was delivered by motorcar.
Many schools returned to Bexhill after the war but there was a steady decline in the number of independent schools in the town.

The first reference to Bexhill, or Bexlei as it was originally called, was in a charter granted by King Offa of Mercia in 772AD.
The railway came through Bexhill in 1846, the first railway station being a small country halt situated roughly where Sainsbury’s car park is today.
Bexhill was the last town in Sussex to be incorporated and it was the first time a Royal Charter was delivered by motor car.

In 1824 a blockademan jumped into a smuggler's boat at Bexhill to try to prevent the landing, but the crew pulled away with him on board and his body was found on the lowtide sands sometime later.
The Maharajah of Cooch Behar, whose sojourn (and death) in Bexhill in the early 20th century was marked by a memorial on the sea front was one well-known resident who came for health reasons.

The Bexhill museum was started in 1914 by a small group of dedicated enthusiasts who specialised in natural history, archaeology and ethnography.
Bexhill village really began to develop as a town in 1804 when it became home to almost 3 thousand soldiers of the Hanoverian King's German Legion at a time when the resident population was less than 1 thousand.
At the end of the 19th Century Bexhill became know for its health giving air and its clear spa waters attracting the rich and the famous who also availed themselves of the revolutionary seafront cycling boulevard.

This was a meat-eating dinosaur similar to Megalosaurus but with a crocodile-like head and large curved claws on its hands.

In May this year, the 13th Bexhill 100 Festival of Motoring celebrated the Centenary of the first Motor Racing in Britain on Bexhill Seafront in 1902.
As an event, the Bexhill 100 has done an enormous amount to raise the profile of Bexhill as a visitor destination and confirm Bexhill on Sea's place in Motor Racing history.
The organising committee have been unable to increase income or reduce the costs using the present format, as has been the problem with so many other events where one is unable to charge the public for entrance.

A century after Bexhill grabbed international headlines by staging Britain's first motor races the town has celebrated its unique achievement in style.
Like every Bexhill 100, the weekend brought a bewildering variety of vehicles - from the wartime Quad tractor which pulled the 25pdr howitzer to the post-war Messerschmitt bubble car; from the Corgi folding scooter developed for air-dropping to parachutists to dragsters of mind-blowing power.
