Situated on the North Bank of the River Brahmaputra, the Dhemaji district and Dhakuakhana Civil Sub-division is bounded by the Brahmaputra River in the South and Subansiri River in the West.
This is a westerly-bifurcated branch of river Dihang.
The Dimow river and Jalakiasuti river combination is known as Archiyak river in their downstream course.The river then flows through a marshy land during its southward course for about 3km and combines with the left bifurcated branch of Dimow along the left side.

River Tsang Po originates at Lake Mansarovar in Western Tibet and runs 2000 miles across the Tibetan plateau at an altitude of 11,000 – 12,000 feet.

The Brahmaputra river is characterised by high intensity flood flows during the monsoon season, June through September, with an average annual flood discharge of 48160m3s-1.
These rains that contribute a large portion of the runoff in the Brahmaputra and its tributaries are primarily controlled by the position of a belt of depressions called the monsoon trough extending from northwest India to the head of the Bay of Bengal.

Around one million people have been rendered homeless due to river erosion in the country over the last three decades as the mighty Brahmaputra-Jamuna continues to widen due to decrease in its depth for heavy rush of sediments from the upstream and poor erosion management in the downstream.
At present, from 100 to 500 metres of land is being eroded from both banks of the river due to lack of river training," said Professor M Monowar Hossain, who conducted the research identifying three causes of expanding width of the Brahmaputra-Jamuna.
The river also gets widened as it has less slope and carries most of the sediment at bottom level in the water, he added.
