		Back in the days of compulsory service, guys from my grandmother's village up in the French Alps would be sent to regular infantry regiments, while Parisians would be sent to les Chasseurs Alpins.
		France has the best rock and ice climbers in the world, and some of the best overall mountain equipment available on the market (Petzl/Charlet Moser), and yet from what you say Beau the French Army issues crap equipment and questionable training to its soldiers.
		It gets a 'flavour' of what mountain warfare is but it can't be compared to "Chasseurs Alpins" battalions which are 100% dedicated to this type of combat.
