Game development - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Game development is the process by which a game is produced.
Development of computer and video games is undertaken by a developer, which may be a single person or a business.
Also it may be possible to use assets that were developed for another game (that the developer owns the copyright to) or assets that are in the public domain.

 [No title]
Game programming and DirectX have their own terms and definitions that can be difficult to understand, but after awhile, you’ll crack the code and be able to explore a new world of possibilities.
Together, the game idea and its playability are the “game design” (not to be confused with “level design,” which is the application of the overall game design to specific segments of the game).
Game development can be one of the most satisfying experiences in computer programming, and as we progress through this series, I am going to teach you all the fundamentals you need to accomplish that goal.

GameDaily BIZ: Designer Laments Stifled Creativity in Game Development
Game design can be very rewarding, but depending on the publisher, licensor, director and others that the designer has to answer to, it can be quite frustrating as well.
Developers, for the most part, all want to make a great game and will work themselves to death to get it done.
The people who work in games are creative by nature, and having that creativity directed, shaped, and abused by people you perceive as non-creative can be a very painful experience if you're not prepared to withstand it.

GameDaily BIZ: Game Development Enters the Scrum
So many developers seem locked into traditional game making processes, but as game creation becomes more and more complex (and costly), alternative methodologies may be needed.
The Agile approach is to iterate on the development of the game and react to the results, such as emerging elements of the actual game play, by constantly planning what is to come next.
The problems I described in the presentation with traditional development are almost universal, and Scrum has a lot of great common sense practices, which are not hard to adopt to address those problems.
