The intermediate product, dinitrogen pentoxide produced from the extraction of water from fuming nitric acid via phosphorus pentoxide, was condensed with a liquid nitrogen trap into a flask containing either hafnium or zironium tetrachloride.
To achieve a high yield, the mixture of fuming nitric acid and phosphorus pentoxide was heated to a certain temperature, from which a large quantity of dinitrogen pentoxide had been generated.
In the following steps hafnium or zirconium tetrachloride was refluxed over dinitrogen pentoxide at 30 to 35 °C for about a half-hour.

PHYSICS LAB: Tech. Highlights 1994 - Div. 843
To furnish improved spectroscopic constants for modeling the atmospheric infrared band profiles of chlorine nitrate and dinitrogen pentoxide used to infer atmospheric abundances and height profiles, we are investigating the microwave and infrared spectra of chlorine nitrate and dinitrogen pentoxide.
The observed spectrum is not well characterized by spectroscopic constants obtained by electron diffraction studies suggesting that these constants are contaminated by unaccounted for contributions from nitric acid formed by the hydrolysis of the highly reactive dinitrogen pentoxide with residual water.
The spectroscopic analysis also suggests that a previous identification of the microwave spectrum of dinitrogen pentoxide is incorrect.

 U.S. Patent: 5318763 - Process for preparing dinitrogen pentoxide - June 7, 1994
Process for producing dinitrogen pentoxide (N.sub.2 O.sub.5) consists of reacting a solution of dinitrogen tetroxide (N.sub.2 O.sub.4) in a volatile organic solvent, with a stream of an ozone-containing carrier gas.
N.sub.2 O.sub.5 produced by reaction between the N.sub.2 O.sub.4 and ozone is transferred into the gas stream, and is thereafter condensed out of the gas stream by contact with further inert organic solvent.
This invention relates to the preparation of dinitrogen pentoxide (N.sub.2 O.sub.5) by the reaction between dinitrogen pentoxide (N.sub.2 O.sub.4) and ozone.

Part I. The investigation of the kinetics of the decomposition of the liquid phase of nitric acid has indicated that the reaction probably proceeds by way of the unimolecular decomposition of dinitrogen pentoxide which exists in the pure acid.
The effects of several inorganic additives in suppressing the rate of decomposition are in agreement with the postulate involving dinitrogen pentoxide.
The magnitude of the inhibition of the decomposition by various additives has been found to be insufficient to prevent the eventual attainment of high equilibrium pressures resulting from decomposition when nitric acid is stored in closed containers.

Method of separating electrochemically produced dinitrogen pentoxide from its solution in nitric acid - Patent 5128001
This invention relates to a method of separating dinitrogen pentoxide (N.sub.2 O.sub.5) from its solution in nitric acid.
It is well known that dinitrogen pentoxide (N.sub.2 O.sub.5) can be prepared at relatively low cost by the electrochemical oxidation of dinitrogen tetroxide (N.sub.2 O.sub.4) dissolved in concentrated nitric acid.
Typically, the solution of N.sub.2 O.sub.4 in nitric acid is situated in the anode compartment of an electrochemical cell with a second solution of N.sub.2 O.sub.4 in nitric acid present in the cathode compartment.
