Fuzzy associative matrix - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A fuzzy associative matrix expresses fuzzy logic rules in matrix form.
The matrix makes it easy to visualize the system, but it also makes it impossible to add a third variable just for one rule, so it is less flexible.
This is both a strength and a weakness of fuzzy logic in general.

Fuzzy logic allows for Membership function between and including 0 and 1, shades of gray as well as fl and white, and in its linguistic form, imprecise concepts like "slightly", "quite" and "very".
Fuzzy logic is controversial despite wide acceptance: it is rejected by some Control theory for validation and other reasons, and by some statistics who hold that probability is the only rigorous mathematical description of uncertainty.
Fuzzy logic can be used to control system household appliances such as washing machines (which sense load size and detergent concentration and adjust their wash cycles accordingly) and refrigerators.

Fuzzy controllers are realised by regarding an operator's control action as a process to model, and thus by collecting a lot of data when the operator is proceeding.
Fuzzy processors are designed in a way to optimise fuzzy logic functions (cf.§3.2) as regards their implementation size and execution speed.
The structure of fuzzy dedicated circuits is characterized by the number and shape range of input and output variables, the number of rules they can evaluate simultaneously, the type(s) of inference(s) (size of premises, operators, consequences,...), the type(s) of defuzzification method(s), and so on.

Fuzzy logic sometimes appears exotic or intimidating to those unfamiliar with, but it seems almost surprising when you become acquainted with it.
In this sense, fuzzy logic is both old and new because, although the modern and methodical science of fuzzy logic is still young, the concepts of fuzzy logic reach down to our bones.
Fuzzy theory holds that all things are matters of degree, and also reduces fl-white logic and mathematics to special limiting cases of grey relationships.

Most of the fuzzy expert systems are rule based reasoning, which are not easy to maintain since the conflict between rules always arise in acquiring new knowledge.
A Fuzzy Proposition is a statement that asserts a value for some given linguistic variable such as 'height is tall' of the general form X is A where A is a fuzzy set in the universe of discourse X. Fuzzy Expression is an algebraic Boolean expression of Fuzzy Proposition 's.
The degree of truth of the above fuzzy rule against the case is the minimum of all degree of truth of all subconditions in the rule.

Fuzzy-Neural Systems for Image Understanding - Computer Books Online --
Fuzzy logic deals with issues such as reasoning at the semantic or linguistic level and is based on the way brain deals with inexact information.
The mathematical level is well within grasp of a first-year graduate in a technical discipline such as engineering, computer science, or technology requiring preparation in classical set theory, discrete mathematics, matrix algebra, and computer programming.
Chapter 9 concerns with associative memories, and Chapter 10 presents various applications of computer vision.

Fuzzy logic is used where a system is difficult to model exactly (but an inexact model is available), is controlled by a human operator or expert, or where ambiguity or vagueness is common.
Their reviewers are called something like Behavioral and Brain Associates, and I believe they have to be nominated by current associates, and should be fairly well established in the field.

A matrix of this form can grow quite large - at least for the horizontal dimension, if all possible trigrams are taken into account.
But in practice a large part does not occur, meaning that the matrix shows a lot of zeros and can be regarded as a 'sparsely coded' matrix like the SpaCAM ('Sparsely Coded Associative Matrix') of the mentioned retrieval method by the University of Hildesheim.
The trigram/document matrix resembles the term/document matrix, that common word based systems are built on.

Recent advances in neural networks and fuzzy logic are transforming the field of computer vision, making it possible for computer vision applications to learn much as the brain does, and to handle imprecise visual data far more effectively.

In my project of designing a fuzzy logic controller, the object is to maintain physical variables (position and velocity of an inverted pendulum) within a certain limit.
The table is to be altered by GA according to the performance of the controller.Position and angular velocity are the two inputs and force is the output for the fuzzy logic controller.
Previously generation of membership function and FAM table was mainly done either iteratively or by trial and error method or by human experts.A task such as this is a natural candidate for GA.Ga will attempt to create membership functions and FAM that will cause the controller to operate optimally.

The decision-making components of the Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) are not explicitly based on the conventional Fuzzy Associative Memory (FAM).
A fuzzy connective OR (Maximum) is operated on the set of derived FRM's to obtain a final fuzzy matrix which essentially constitutes the rule base of the FLC.
Hence, instead of using a forward changing technique for firing the applicable rule, an unknown output is evaluated by the composition of the related input with the FRM.

Method and apparatus for model-free optimal signal timing for system-wide traffic control - Patent 5668717
In these approaches, the system model is not a set of equations, but instead is a detailed list of rules that express "if-then" relationships (either directly or through a so-call fuzzy associative memory matrix).
The information associated with all the observed traffic conditions during training gets stored in the weights.theta..sup.(m).
Thus, when faced with a new set of traffic conditions, the NN control can be expected to produce a good instantaneous control if it can interpolate to the new conditions from the information stored in the weights from previous days' training (and the weight initialization).
