		Grunge music can be sharply constrasted to hair metal's macho lyrics, anthemic riffs, and a perceived lack of social consciousness, especially in the race to attract mainstream audiences.
		Grunge was embraced by the youth for its simple defiance of the then-cultural norm, which was seen by many as a corporate-dominated and superficial popular culture.

		Grunge is just a label that the companies used to sell these "new" bands to a certain demographic.

		CON - o "Grunge" music might need to be more clearly defined, as obviously not all grunge bands are from Seattle or the subpop lable.
		DISCLAIMER: I rarely listen to grunge music myself, but I have just come to the conclusion that such a group is needed, as much of the traffic on alt.music.alternative concerns grunge bands.

		When the Grunge scene was it, i was just about 9-14, i guess Soundgarden's "Superunknown" (1995) was one of the last good grunge albums, although it wasn't entirely with a grunge vibe, i guess those were the times to be rebellious.
		They're not really a grunge band as their first album was in 1983 (!!!) and they still are a awesome, awesome band, latest release sonic nurse was just last year.
