		Both Hi8 and SVHS were officially rated at a (luminance) resolution of "400 horizontal TV/lines," a vast improvement from their respective base-formats of 240 lines.
		Hi8 PCM audio used 12-bit samples with a sampling rate of roughly 32 kHz, which was far short of CD quality.
		Hi8 (along with VHS-C) is still used for some entry-level camcorders aimed at consumers, but elsewhere has been almost entirely superseded by digital formats, such as its successor Digital8, miniDV, and miniDVD.

		Note, I had a hi8 camera that was getting tired, so I recently upgraded to a Sony mini DV camcorder (TRV950).
		Hi8 camcorders usually top out at 400 lines of horizontal resolution and DV camcorders usually advertise 500+ lines of horizontal resolution.

		We are using a series of Sony Hi8 Handicams as well as an AverMedia PCI analog capture card.
		Hi8 format delivers 400 horizontal lines and apparently it does it interlaced.
		In the video there is a quite a bit of movement, not as much the camera itself (we also have tripods of different kinds) but the subjects being filmed.

		Hi8 tapes allow recording two hours in SP mode where as in Digital8 the recording time is one hour.
		My 5 year old TRV320 reads Video8 and Hi8 tapes very well AND processes the signal through a Time Base Corrector as well as a Noise Reduction Filter to make a better digital transfer to be recorded on D8 tape or passed-through the FireWire link to a computer.

		Hi8 is plenty good enough for my home movies, and my Samsung Hi8 SC-W71 is awesome.
		As for a Hi8 to VHS adapter tape, that's not possible, as 8mm film is a different format than VHS.

		All of the Hi8 tapes that I have recorded from the Panasonic set top recorder to DVD-R disk (and finalized) do the same thing: They play on other set top DVD players, play on my brother-in-laws computer, but only show a scene preview on my computer (Windows 2000 OS).
		I have the same problems but went the capture card route to edit my Hi8 videos, the quality was very poor.

	Hi8 tape causes PVR-150 picture break-up
		Interestingly, I can record from the my Hi8 camera to a VCR recorder, then play the VCR recorded tape into the PVR-150 card and get the same result.
		When playing a live picture from Hi8 directly into the PVR-150 I have no problem even when moving the camera rapidly, It is only associated with taped material.
		Apparently the problem is associated with the encoding of the Hi8 taped analogue signal to digital.

		I've managed to scrounge a Hi8 camcorder, but recently a client brought me some Hi8 tapes that were recorded in LP.
		Since the cassettes are physically the same I find myself wondering if playback of Hi8 might be possible as a hidden feature.
		I'm not quite sure what happens between CMOS and recording heads so maybe it's a stupid question, but I can see manufacturers throwing it in if it didn't cost them anything in materials.
