 MTV.com - Movies - Howard Hanson
Composer/conductor Howard Hanson never made a career in Hollywood or scored a movie, but during the final two years of his life, he found one of his works exposed to a vast new public, all thanks to the movie Alien (1979).
Hanson had a kind of split personality where music was concerned -- as a teacher and conductor, he did his best to encourage, perform, and (when possible) record modern, distinctly 20th century works; but as a composer, he wrote in a very clearly romantic style that recalled the late 19th century.
Hanson was busy enough throughout his life, between teaching, composing, conducting, and recording, and also so rooted on the East Coast that movie-related work never entered into his career.

Hanson, who won the federal Queensland seat of Oxley at that election in a fluke result based on her statements against Aboriginal welfare and a sense that she had been mistreated when the Liberal Party dumped her as its candidate, swiped those voters from Howard as her national profile grew.
But here is the exquisite irony in Howard's successful wooing back of those who flirted with Hanson: now that she has been jailed and Abbott is rightly seen as being instrumental in making this happen, the conspiracy theories and resentments of big-politics-as-usual have been inflamed all over again.
And yet, even though Howard, at the moment, has the One Nation tiger by the tail and is in danger of being hurt by Hanson's jailing, he still wants to make the noises her supporters want to hear.
