  Independence Party of New York
Democratic values and attitudes are learned through participation, and the highest calling of a citizen is to serve his or her fellow citizens in office as a position of trust, enjoying the bonds of affection with the voters for their willingness to sacrifice through public service.
Our political party is committed to every aspect of this participation, whether in our party or in other political parties and organizations.
As you all know these views in no way reflect the platform and beliefs of the Independence Party and serve as a distraction from the Party's efforts to support candidates who are committed to real reform of New York State's dysfunctional government.

The party was formed in 1992 by Minnesota supporters of Ross Perot, and fielded Dean Barkley that year as a candidate for a seat in the US House of Representatives.
The state party carried that name until it disaffiliated from the national party in 2000 due to factional dissent and the increasing influence of Pat Buchanan.

 Independence Party Platform
The Independence Party is committed to the concept that voters have an inherent right to a democratic choice in all their elections, and that the only way to guarantee that right is to insure that challengers have relatively equal access to resources.
The reality is that neither party has proposed anything that approaches a solution to this problem, and both parties and their candidates are periodically guilty of absurd propaganda against the other in the pursuit of electoral advantage on this issue.
However, the Independence Party stands steadfastly opposed to discrimination, prejudice and racism in their myriad of forms, and we do not believe that anyone should be discriminated against on the basis of his or her sexual preference.
