Tribal outfits and political parties in mineral-rich Kolhan region of Jharkhand are up in arms against development projects, including industries, fearing they would result in large scale displacement of inhabitants and loss of their sources of livelihood.
The outfits and parties, including Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, have launched a series of agitations and demonstrations protesting the memorandum of understanding signed between the Jharkhand government and prospective investors since the creation of the state in 2000.
He said hundreds of adivasi families have been leading a miserable lives and are forced to migrate to other states in search of livelihood after they had been displaced from their own lands for development projects in the past.

Jharkhand government has written to Mittal Steel promising a total 600 tonnes of iron ore after it announces a 12-million tonne steel project in Orissa.
Jharkhand had agreed to provide iron ore reserves of 400 tonnes for the first 30 years of operation and another 200 tonnes for the next 20 years for the two-phase project as per the MoU signed in October last year by the two sides for a greenfield steel project.
