From July - November 1942, a village on the Kokoda trail, from Buna on the north coast thru the Owen Stanley Mountain Range to Port Moresby.
On the trail the Australian 7th Division resisted the Japanese, and the advance was halted within 30 miles of the city, and due to losses, and lack of resupply, the Japanese began to fall back towards their beachhead at Buna.
This airfield was an important base for Australian defenders during the fighting along the trail, and target of the Japanese for recapture.

 Australian Military Units
The Kokoda Trail was a path that linked Ower's Corner, approximately 40 km north-east of Port Moresby, and the small village of Wairopi, on the northern side of the Owen Stanley mountain range.
From Wairopi, a crossing point on the Kumusi River, the Trail was connected to the settlements of Buna, Gona and Sanananda on the north coast.
"Kokoda Trail" and "Kokoda Track" have been used interchangeably since the Second World War and the former was adopted by the Battles Nomenclature Committee as the official British Commonwealth battle honour in October 1957.

The Kokoda Trail was originally used by gold miners during the 1890s, walking north from Port Moresby to the goldfields of Yodda and Kokoda.
Kokoda was defended by the Australians on a tongue like plateau which overlooks the land below.

We are taking a group of WOMEN only to Kokoda to undertake the 96km trek in PNG, which is where many Australian and Japanese soldiers fought during the second world war.
It is about what it takes to get there, the preparation and the interaction and relationships formed during this journey and between this group of women.
