	Significant United States Supreme Court Cases
		State prosecutors argued that he was "competent and had the mental capacity to know and appreciate the wrongfulness of his [conduct]." They also argued that because there were no reasonable prospects for his rehabilitation within the juvenile justice system Thompson should be treated as an adult.
		The state legislature passed the statute, which declared that: (1) life begins at conception; (2) unborn children have rights; (3) public employees and facilities are forbidden to perform abortions not necessary to save the life of the mother, and (4) the use of public funds for counseling about abortion is prohibited.
		That district court decision was upheld in the United States Circuit Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit.
