		My ideal Metallica record would combine the unstoppable pristine fury of their early records with the pulsing swagger of the Metallica/Load period, and that'll probably never happen, so if you're curious about the full scope of the band, you'll have to pick up one record from the 80s and one from the 90s.

		Metallica's landmark 1986 tour opening for Ozzy Osbourne is surely one of the most important events in the history of thrash.

		It's unfortunate that Metallica's first cheaply available live album (yeah, Binge and Purge had come out many years before, but that's part of a big mega-expensive set) had to come at this point in their career, because there's a lot of mediocre late-period material to be found here.

		By the end of the 90's, Metallica was established as the pioneer of modern metal, but are now more popular with grade school kids than with their original fan base who felt betrayed by their more recent modern rock sounds.
		Metallica's style here was reminiscent of Diamond Head's "Lightning to the Nations", with a slightly more punk attitude and frantic guitar delivery.
		Metallica unplugged sounds like an oxymoron to me. Still, the songs all seem to work well in an acoustic setting, with the possible exception of "Creeping Death." I'm not sure that this song couldn't work in an acoustic setting, but it doesn't on this disc.

		Metallica has great music, in my opinion this and MOP are the strongest Metallica albums out there, my favorite song on this album is enter sandman, but also Metallicas song sound too much the same, the guitars are really heavy and sometimes you cant indentify a certain melody that captures the listeners attention.

		Enough was indeed enough for Hetfield and co. A decade on from their landmark Black Album saw hair trimmed and albums criticised.
		St Anger, while not flawless, sees Metallica wipe the floor of nu-metal and piss back on it again - the bonus DVD even does so, featuring each track live in rehearsal.

		I prefer the first three to this, but then again I can remember when Metallica was releasing bootleg recordings on picture discs instead of taking their fans to court.
