		So the voices of the Minoans, their stories, their history as they understood it, is lost to us.
		The Minoans were, after all, a great mercantile people and they kept profoundly accurate records of their transactions.
		Whatever happened, the Minoans, weakened by this catastrophe, seem to have been conquered by the Myceneans, who, influenced by the Aegean civilizations, had developed their own civilization on the Greek mainland.

	The Minoans
		For the Minoans produced a singular civilization in antiquity: one oriented around trade and bureaucracy with little or no evidence of a military state.
		We call them the Myceneans after the best-preserved of their cities, and their greatest accomplishment, it would seem, was the destruction of a large commercial center across the Aegean Sea in Asia Minor: Troy.
