FX, tonight, 10 ET/PT Tuck's title refers to the philosophy of the less ethically challenged member of the plastic team, who believes patients should take "the nip-and-tuck route, subtle, imperceptible changes." The obvious contradiction is that creator Ryan Murphy, of the almost equally out-there Popular, has no interest in subtlety.
But in a season packed with reality and retreads, at least Murphy and FX are shooting for something novel and doing so in a way that is less pretentious and more dramatically viable than many of their more high-profile cable competitors.
Tuck is not an easy show to watch, and not just because the surgical gore level is at an all-time high.

 Re: Nip and Tuck
NIP AND TUCK - "Nip and tuck pretty much means 'neck and neck,' but the latter phrase suggests, say, two runners racing at the same speed with neither one ahead of the other, while 'nip and tuck' describes a close race where the lead alternates.
Paulding used the phrase, William T. Porter ".wrote it both 'nip and tack' and 'nip and chuck.' But 'nip and tuck' has been common usage through the years since.
A rip, of course, is the result of what mother does to a piece of cloth in reducing it to smaller portions; the tuck the fold she makes in one such portion to sew it to another, as in making a patchwork quilt.
