The Oneida Tribe are members of the League of the Iroquois, a confederacy of the Seneca, Cayuga, Onondaga, Oneida, and Mohawk based on mutual non-aggression.
Oneida settlers in Wisconsin were divided into two groups-Methodists and Anglicans-and they settled in a number of smaller communities on their new lands.
Whereas Oneida society had been strongly clan-oriented, life in Wisconsin was more focussed on the nuclear family of a married couple and their children, with other kin bonds extending out through the neighborhood.

Forty-five of his followers from Putney followed Noyes to Oneida and by the end of 1848, their membership grew to eighty-seven.
The criticisms were usually directed toward the "member's bad traits (those thoughts or acts that detracted from family unity), and an individual could be put through a shameful, humiliating experience." Only Noyes himself would not go through this unless he decided to, because he felt that a group should not criticize their leader.
This outfit custom have been inspired by the native women of the region, and may have also been known to Elizabeth Smith Miller, who lived nearby, and is generally credited with inventing the "Bloomer" costume.

In February 2003, the Oneida Public Library dedicated its fourth Winter Jubilee of special programming to America’s Jazz Age, a period of boom and bust in the City of Oneida as in the rest of the country.
Included was an exhibit of vintage photographs of Oneida in the Jazz Age, made available to the library by the Madison County Historical Society, Oneida, N.Y. These photographs have been digitized.
The Oneida Steel Pulley Company, located at 129 Cedar Street, was taken over by Dodge Steel Pulley Co. The building also housed A. Ryan and Sons for more than 35 years.
