Osama (2003)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-27)
Osama, a name that strikes fear in almost every person, is a bogus name of a young girl who lives with her widowed mother and grandmother.
The fact that neither women can't go to work under the strict rules of the Taliban, forces the mother to cut her daughter's hair short and send her to work as a boy.
According to the IMDB's Biography of Marina Golbahar (who portrays Osama) the struggle for survival is hardly new to her which is probably why she plays in such a credible and moving manner despite having no acting experience.

Osama bin Laden - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Osama bin Laden was born in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to Muhammad Awad bin Ladin, a wealthy businessman involved in construction and with close ties to the Saudi royal family.
Osama is the only son of the elder bin Laden's tenth wife, Hamida al-Attas, who is reportedly of Syrian descent.
His full name means "Osama, son of Mohammed, son of `Awad, son of Laden." However, the bin Laden family (or "Binladin," as they prefer to be known) generally use the name as a surname, in the Western style.

 Osama (2004): Reviews
Osama's unvarnished vulnerability, along with the director's combination of tough-mindedness and lyricism, prevents the movie from becoming at all sentimental; instead, it is beautiful, thoughtful and almost unbearably sad.
Effective as a drama as it spirals Golbahari deeper into her nightmarish world, Osama is similarly powerful as a fictionalized account of the Taliban's obscene wish for a world where the stringent enforcement of religious laws took the place of instinctual human kindness.
When Osama is pardoned from being stoned, she is forgiven, and the flock, in response praise God, and miss the irony.

Herded with confused young boys in the streets, 'Osama' finds herself in a Taliban training school, where her identity is challenged from the onset.
As you might expect from this sad story, "Osama" is a harsh chronicle of life under the oppressive rule of the Taliban through the eyes of an innocent girl.
The fear and utter terror felt by the young girl, whom we only know by her male moniker, Osama, is palpable as she first poses as her mother's son and escorts her to try to find work caring for those driven out when the Taliban shut down the hospital.
