I can't find the link any where but I remember reading something that said MLS and he had discussions for him to my the Mutiny right before contraction, but MLS supposedly raised the price at the last minute and he backed out.
He would want to maximize the chance he could somehow recoup his own investment, especially since he was going to remain a league investor (just not an operator) either way.
