	Periscope - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		This form of periscope, with the addition of two simple lenses, was used for observation purposes in the trenches during World War I.
		Periscopes, in some cases fixed to rifles, were used in World War I to enable soldiers to see out of the trenches.
		Periscopes were also extensively used in tanks, enabling drivers or tank's commanders to inspect the situation without leaving the safety of the tank.

		The periscope rifle was invented in May 1915 by Lance Corporal William Beech, 2nd Battalion, a builder's foreman: this device allowed a soldier standing in a trench to take accurate aim and fire without exposing himself to the enemy.
		The upper mirror of the periscope was so fixed that it looked along the sights of a rifle; this image was reflected in the lower mirror, into which the soldier peered.

		I watched Down Periscope when I ordered it from Direct TV on the Satellite and I thought it was a good movie.
		I'm not really a fan of fart jokes but even I have to admit that the scene when the people on the ship were listening in on the submarine and someone farted and the sound was magnified and the guys on the ship couldn't figure out what the loud noise was was actually funny.
		Down Periscope is a 3 1/2 star movie that I recommend and I will have to think about buying the DVD which has both a widescreen version and a pan and scan version.
