Johns F. (Jeff) Rulifson (born August 20, 1941) is a computer scientist largely known for his involvement at the Augmentation Research Center, at then-named Stanford Research Institute (now SRI International) in implementing the On-Line System (NLS), a system that foreshadowed many future developments in modern computing and networking.
Rulifson was also an instrumental figure during the early days of the ARPANET.
Rulifson left SRI to join the Scientific Systems Lab (SSL) within Xerox PARC, during the 1970s.

Rulifson was honored as an ARPANET Pioneer for his work in "packet networking and the concept of a common language for communications to allow dissimilar systems to communicate" leading to the Internet.
Rulifson is an award-winning scientist and Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery with over 30 years experience.
His discussion will include Sun's efforts in a cost-effective high-speed interconnect architecture that enables very fast transfer of large amounts of data within the processing environment such as the processing and management of reconnaissance imagery or the transfer of medical imagery in hospitals or battlefield environments.

Last year, Rulifson and his wife spent several weeks with the tribe and saw, among other hardships, how the children were learning to read from British primers or Kenyan books about city life in Nairobi.
Rulifson decided to use the village's myths and rituals, passed along through oral history, to create more appropriate children's books.

Hyperlink - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Meanwhile, working independently, a team led by Douglas Engelbart (with Jeff Rulifson as chief programmer) was the first to implement the hyperlink concept for scrolling within a single document (1966), and soon after for connecting between paragraphs within separate documents (1968).
In a series of books and articles published from 1964 through 1980, Nelson transposed Bush's concept of automated cross-referencing into the computer context, made it applicable to specific text strings rather than whole pages, generalized it from a local desk-sized machine to a theoretical worldwide computer network, and advocated the creation of such a network.
While hyperlinking among pages of Internet content has long been considered an intrinsic feature of the Internet medium, some websites have claimed that linking to them is not allowed without permission, see e.g.

Michel Elie, visiting at UCLA from France, worked on this idea further and published Proposal for a Network Interchange Language (NIL) [RFC 51].
