On April 26th the management of the Tainan factory in El Salvador announced in an article in the local newspapers that the workers who have been suspended due to lack of work in the plant since the beginning of April would NOT be returning to work and that their suspensions are in fact firings.
Along with the announcement of closure, Tainan began to dismantle machinery in the factory and initiated the legal process of dissolving the company, but the Labor Ministry of El Salvador denied permission for dissolution until all the workers have accepted their severance benefits.
Tainan told the delegation that the factory would only be closed temporarily and that the company would rehire the workers once production resumed.

Certified by authorities as the largest beached whale on record in Taiwan, the 17-meter 50-ton carcass was being transported by a flat-bed trailer-truck to a special research location after National Cheng Kung University officials and security guards refused to allow the whale on campus.
The whale was to be preserved and an autopsy performed at the "Shi-Tsao Natural Preserve" in Tainan County by a team of marine biologists and taxidermists.
National Cheng Kung University marine biologist, professor Wang Chien-ping, was on the scene and said he had he instructed the truck driver to move the carcass so the whale could be used for educational purposes and an autopsy could be done.

This is a single day Pi-Li birding trip to Tainan County in southern Taiwan in search of the following rarities: Black-faced Spoonbills, Pheasant-tailed Jacanas, Cotton Pygmy Goose, Caspian Terns, Greater Spotted Eagle, and Black Storks.
These Jacanas are severely endangered in Taiwan with a population of less than 50 individuals remaining in the ponds of Tainan County, plus a few migratory individuals.
A plan to establish a sanctuary for these birds has been proposed, but so has a construction plan for a highway to cut right through the vital breeding areas.

 Tainan Air Base
I am involved in a project to recreate the Tainan Air Base as it appeared just prior to the outbreak of hostilities (circa 1940) and I'm looking for some info and/or resources.
There are many - perhaps hundreds - of aerial photos of Tainan AB in World War II records held in the Cartographic and Architectural Branch of the U.S. National Archives in Washington.
Some of these date from 1942-43, but most of them would be from 1944 to the end of the war.
