Talbot studied the classics and mathematics at Cambridge, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society in 1822, and a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1832.
Talbot attempted to draw with the aid of both a camera obscura and a camera lucida when producing his sketches, one of which was Villa Melzi.
Talbot chose not to extend his patent to Scotland, and this paved the way for some outstanding photographs to be produced in Edinburgh by Hill and Adamson.

The Talbot in question is widely accepted as being John Talbot, Earl of Shrewsbury, although there appears to be no direct evidence that he ever owned this property, or indeed owned any vines in Bordeaux at all.
John Talbot was an octogenarian soldier, sent by King Henry VI to sort out the rebellious French, who had clearly had enough of 300 years of English rule in Aquitaine, this having been the situation since Henry II married Eleanor of Aquitaine in 1152.
But this is as good a wine from Talbot as I have tasted in a long time, and it has built on the early promise seen at the UGC tasting in 2005.

Talbot was taken over by the Paris based, but British controlled, Darracq company in 1919 and in 1920 this joint company amalgamated with the Sunbeam company to form STD Motors.
Talbot's survival however probably owed more to the support it obtained from the much more successful Sunbeam part of the STD combine; a situation which was to be reversed 10 years later.
Following the war Talbot kept its flame alive largely through the success of the small 970cc 8/18hp of which a 1922 example is shown to the left.

He gave the name "negative" to the inverted image that Talbot was producing on his paper covered with suitably chosen chemicals, and "fixing" to the process that Talbot perfected of treating the paper with further chemicals to prevent further action by light.
Talbot was able to find a way to print back his negatives onto sensitive paper giving a correct representation of the scene pictured.
Talbot quickly moved to publicise his own work sending examples of his photographs to the Royal Institution in London less than a week after he heard of the French announcement, and he wrote to Arago claiming priority a couple of days later.

The Petro Horizon was a purely Finnish invention, where the engine was converted to be able to run on motorpetrolem due to a search for cheaper alternatives to gasoline at the end of the 1970s.
First the Valmet factory converted Saabs, then when Talbots were added to the range of the factory, the Horizon was converted.
The conversion took away a sizeable chunk of horsepower because compression had to be lowered significantly, and the motorpetroleum affects the oil of the engine, so intervals for oil change had to be shortened considerably, but still you could expect lower mileage and a noticeable smell.
