Tarron Oates shot Alexis King February 3rd in Philadelphia.  The Philadelphia News’ sensationalist headline read, “Police said the suspect was enraged to find that the victim, whom he had hired for sex, was a man.”  The reporter insisted on using King’s birth name and pronouns and referred to her as a man throughout.
           Last October 25th two transwoman were brutally attacked in Pontiac, Michigan.  Two men verbally harassed them outside the Liberty Bar on Saginaw Street, and followed them home.  Their attackers tried to stomp them to death.  Both were knocked unconscious.
One victim suffered 15 broken bones in her face; the other suffered a fractured jaw and lower eye socket, and had clearly visible boot prints over her spleen.  The town’s reaction can be summed up as “but that doesn’t happen here!” Now it has.
