Unit Load Device - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Unit Load Devices, or ULDs, are pallets and containers used to load luggage, freight, and mail on wide-body aircraft and specific narrow-body aircraft.
ULD pallets are rugged sheets of aluminum with rims designed to lock onto cargo net lugs.
ULD containers, also known as cans and pods, are fully enclosed containers made of aluminum or combination of aluminum (frame) and plastic (walls) and, depending on the nature of the goods inside, may or may not have refrigeration units built-in.

 Unit Load Formation Equipment
Unit load formation equipment used to restrict materials so that they maintain their integrity when handled a single load during transport and for storage.
Enables a load to be handled as a single unit when it is transferred between road, rail, and sea modes of transport; e.g., the container can be unloaded from a cargo ship and loaded onto a truck as a single unit
Since the ergonomics of loading and unloading are important (e.g., vertically, the prime working zone is between the knees and the chest; horizontally, reaches of more than 24 in.

 Slipsheets
With the slip sheet supported by one of these transportation devices the unit load can easily be transported both internally within a facility and externally between two facility locations [1].
The lip extensions permit a push-pull device to lift the slip sheet unit load [1].
This allows a loading device to load the slip sheet unit load from one side and an unloading device to unload the load from another side depending on the number and pattern of the remaining lips.

 HULD Description
The Titan Hardened Unit Load Device (HULD) is a high-strength, unibody container for widebody aircraft to confine the blast and suppress the fires caused by internal explosives.
These evaluations were performed using analytic models which embodied the essential characteristics of the transient blast loading from the explosive, the response of the ULD to this dynamic loading, and the failure models of the ULD.
Figure 3 shows a ULD, representative of the type used in widebody aircraft, after a small bomb was detonated in one of the suitcases.

ULDs and Pallets is a section containing information on the variety of different unit load devices and pallets in current use.
The original flat pallet with net was introduced in around October 1945 by The Flying Tiger Line with assistance from the United States Air Force.
Between 1945 and the late 1950s, when Western jets were introduced, the pallet changed little but became a vital piece of equipment for the growing air cargo industry.

IATA - Interline ULD Control User Group (IULDUG)
The Interline ULD Control User Group is a self-funded business unit, that was formed to facilitate the interline movements of ULDs, under standard procedures, and to track ULDs when they are outside the control of the ULD owner.
This is achieved through a multilateral ULD Control Agreement between participants in the programme, which is centralised and managed by the IATA ULD Control Centre.
The main purpose of the Control Centre is to make sure that a unit is speedily returned to its owner, but at the same time compensating the owner for the temporary absence of the unit.

Hermani AG: Logical pallet replacement system
For years, people in the transportation and distribution industries have been trying to force-fit loads onto a standard-sized load platform or pallet.
When the more logical, effective and economical method is to do the opposite - make the load carrier conform to the size and shape of the goods you're shipping.
The revolutionary, very lean, one-way Ledge System makes use of a lightweight, phytosanitary, L-shaped unit load transport device - The Ledge - an alternative base for pallets ar unit loads that is integral to the packaged product during its storage and distribution.

The Manga is based on a Micrel KS-8695P network processor, an SoC (system-on-chip) with a 166MHz ARM9 core, memory management unit (MMU), 5-port managed switch, and 33MHz PCI bridge.
The physical device includes two additional RJ-45 ports which can be configured as additional WAN ports, at the expense of other PCI-based interfaces.
