Mitral Valve and Mitral Valve Prolapse
The mitral (MI'tral) valve is between the heart's left atrium (upper, holding chamber) and left ventricle (lower, pumping chamber).
Mitral valve prolapse is also known as click-murmur syndrome, Barlow's syndrome, balloon mitral valve and floppy valve syndrome.
However, those who have leaky (regurgitant) prolapsing valves are at increased risk of developing an infection of the lining of the heart or heart valve known as endocarditis. In the past, some people with MVP have been given antibiotics before certain dental or surgical procedures to help prevent an infection called bacterial endocarditis (BE).

Valve - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Although valves are sometimes made connected or integral with some other object like a vessel, many valves are manufactured initially as a separate item to be connected afterwards to some other object such as a pipe, tube, or pump head on at least one of the valve ports either by a manufacturer or the user.
Valve sizes are commonly given by the outer diameter of tubing or pipng the ports connect to; for example, a 1-inch valve is sized to connect to 1-inch outer diameter tubing.
However, valves may eventually wear out from use and develop a leak, either between the inside and outside of the valve or, when the valve is shut to stop flow, between the disc and the seat.

Balloon valvuloplasty is a procedure that may be used to open narrowed tricuspid and pulmonary valves, a narrowed mitral valve, and, rarely, the aortic valve.

As the ventricles begin to contract, the pulmonic and aortic valves are forced open and blood is pumped out of the ventricles through the open valves into the pulmonary artery toward the lungs, the aorta, and the body.

 Valve Diseases
The two valves that most commonly become diseased and are responsible for the vast majority of clinical heart valve disease are the inlet (mitral) and outlet (aortic) valves of the main pumping chamber of the heart, the left ventricle.
The valve may have a defect such as artificial narrowing (stenosis) which restricts blood flow, or may be weakened and cause regurgitation (where the blood is re-directed in the wrong direction).
The aortic valve is the outflow valve of the left ventricle; it sits at the junction of the left ventricle and the aorta, the large blood vessel responsible for carrying blood to the entire body.

 Valve Surgery
The aortic valve resides deep within the heart and regulates the blood supply to all of the major vessels of the body.
Mitral valve regurgitation is sometimes caused by mitral valve prolapse, a relatively common and benign condition in which the patient has too large a valve leaflet that makes a snapping sound when the valve closes.
The type of valve replacement chosen depends largely on the severity of the condition and the overall health of the patient.

Valve   (Site not responding. Last check: )
On a brass instrument, a valve is a mechanism that, when in use, directs the air column along additional tubing inside the instrument, thus producing a different fundamental and harmonic series.
Most modern valved instruments employ similar valve systems which results in the same patterns of valve combinations to alter a pitch.
It should be noted that the addition of the fourth valve became common in the mid-20th century to help produce better intonation with the third valve combinations that tended to be "out of tune" or having poor intonation (especially the 1st and 3rd valve combination).

Aortic valve stenosis: Causes - MayoClinic.com
Aortic valve stenosis is narrowing of the aortic valve.
Known as a bicuspid aortic valve, this deformity may not cause any problems until adulthood, at which time the valve may begin to narrow or leak and may need to be repaired or replaced.
If the aortic valve is narrowed, the left ventricle has to work harder to pump a sufficient amount of blood into the aorta and onward to the rest of your body.

Mitral Valve Prolapse (MVP) Symptoms, Causes, Diagnosis and Treatment on MedicineNet.com
Mitral valve prolapse (also known as "click murmur syndrome" and "Barlow's syndrome") is the most common heart valve abnormality, affecting five to ten percent of the world population.
A normal mitral valve consists of two thin leaflets, located between the left atrium and the left ventricle of the heart.
Mitral valve leaflets, shaped like parachutes, are attached to the inner wall of the left ventricle by a series of strings called "chordae." When the ventricles contract, the mitral valve leaflets close snugly and prevent the backflow of blood from the left ventricle into the left atrium.

Shacknews - Valve on Episode One
Steam, while primarily acting as a content delivery system serving Valve as well as a growing number of other independent developers, is also a tool Valve uses to guage gamers' pace, gameplay tendencies, and success rates long after the company's already extensive internal playtesting has finished.
Because Valve's storytelling have some very specific constraints--the first person perspective is never broken, the player never loses control without good reason, the protagonist never speaks, and so on--this development method is almost necessary to ensure that the intended story and emotions are reaching the player intact.
First, when Valve gets player feedback on what players think what works and what doesn't work, the company has the opportunity to iterate on gameplay using that information in a matter of months rather than a matter of years.

Introduction: Heart Valve Disorders: Merck Manual Home Edition
In the left ventricle, the inlet valve is the mitral valve, which opens from the left atrium, and the outlet valve is the aortic valve, which opens into the aorta.
Mechanical valves last for many years, but people with mechanical valves must take anticoagulants for the rest of their lives to prevent blood clots from forming in the valve.
Abnormal valves and all replacement valves can become infected, and people need to take prophylactic antibiotics, which are antibiotics taken at certain times (for example, before some dental or medical procedures) in order to prevent bacterial infection of the valves (infective endocarditis).

eMedicine - Tetralogy of Fallot With Absent Pulmonary Valve : Article Excerpt by: Prema Ramaswamy, MD
However, when the pulmonary valve is absent and the ventricular septum is intact, a normal ductus arteriosus generally coexists (Yeager, 2002).
However, TOF with absent pulmonary valve is rare, and approximately 3% of patients with TOF have the absent pulmonary valve syndrome.
The size of the pulmonary valve annulus and, therefore, severity of pulmonary regurgitation substantially influence patient morbidity and mortality.

Pulmonary valve insufficiency is a disorder involving a defect of the valve located in the pulmonary artery.
