Consumer Tips - Stopping in the Wet   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-05)
In the wet, friction and water dispersement between tyres and the road is reduced, lengthening stopping distance and increasing the likelihood of losing vehicle control.
In the wet, it is reduced to.5 (slippery).
A wet road is equal to 5 kph extra speed on good tyres with good brakes.

Cycling in the wet   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-05)
If you are not familiar with riding in the wet, on your first wet ride try out your brakes.
Road surfaces are more slippery in the wet and if you brake too suddenly you will skid, perhaps dangerously.
Wet road surfaces absorb more light and at night time this reduces visibility.

Riding in the wet   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-05)
To explain in Florida the wet season is during the summer.
The first reason is that water and the waste oils on the road don't mix, especially at the beginning of a rain shower, the resulting substance I believe is the slickest thing known to man. The substance would be second only to wet pavement markings another hazard of wet roadways.
The second cause of low traction is that water fills in the grain of the road causing the tire to be in contact directly with less surface.

The "In-the-Wet" construction plan calls for breaking the dam into two segments of 333-foot and 265-foot.
This "In-the-Wet" technology is expected to save $5 - $15 mil and reduce the construction time by one year.

Racing in the wet with Porsches
I've never competed in the wet so it was going to be a very educational day indeed.
But with the wet track and in wet I mean small rivers running across the track in a lot of places, I was expecting to add at least 10-15 seconds to my best time in the dry.
Keeping half throttle on the corners, and applying the rest of the pedal 3/4 through the corner is just enough to break traction and walk the car across the track and line it up for the next corner.

In fact, I will say when driving in the wet you have to be much more physical, much more forceful and drive with flair.
You will find you need to experiment using the wet line, and there will be more than one way round on a wet line.

Vetiver Grass -- 15 YEARS OF BIOENGINEEERING IN THE WET TROPICS   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-05)
The Wet Tropics, a term of Australian usage connoting its north-east tropical area that receives huge amount of rainfall, is used in the context of this Paper to mean the Southeast Asian equatorial monsoon belt.
In the Wet Tropics, grassing (inclusive of leguminous cover crops) by sodding/turfing or hydroseeding techniques as well as the planting of shrubs and trees have been used for quite a few decades for slope protection with varying degree of results.
In the Wet Tropics this involves rainfall which is responsible for the removal of surficial layers, resulting in rills or gullies of about 10~60 cm depth.

Coming from a country that has more wet days than dry it was only natural to jump at the opportunity to test out two new tyres from Uniroyal - the people proclaimed as the Rain Tyre Specialists.
Compared with a motor cycle which displaces about 6 litres of water a second, and a ST tyre that shifts 26 litres per second, a high performance tyre disperses approximately 43 litres a seconds.
They say the proof of the pudding is in its eating and after comparison, driving as fast as possible, in every car shod with different tyres.

 Shutterbug: Shooting In The Wet
I live in a relatively arid part of California so I really don’t have to be concerned much with snow or frequent hard rains but I do shoot around breaking waves, in and among tide pools and blowing spindrift can be much worse due to the salt content.
There are a number of point-and-shoots, also called lens-shutter cameras, that will do a very professional job in extremely wet conditions (see “Surviving The Storm: Six Weather Resistant Cameras” in the April ’97 issue of Shutterbug for more details on some of these cameras) and my personal choice is the amphibious Nikonos.
I currently use the long discontinued Nikonos III for a variety of reasons but it lacks the built-in light meter of the current Nikonos V and this can be a problem.

Bike Chat Forums : Bike braking in the wet
In the wet I tend to just try and be even more careful and progressive with the brakes, and don't get myself into situations whereby I'm 100% relying on my brakes to get me down to a safe speed.
In the wet, if there's a decent amount of grip on the front, then it should unload the rear a fair bit.
So in theory you should brake exactly the same in the wet and dry but try to be smoother and brake softer in the wet.

Gardening in the Wet and the Dry
However, wet soils are not an uncommon feature in many areas of the Pacific Northwest and there are many native plants that are quite able to tolerate such conditions.
Trees that can handle wet soil include Oregon ash (Fraxinus latifolia), Western red cedar (Thuja plicata), good, old red alder (Alnus rubra, a nitrogen fixer) and fl cottonwood (Populus trichocarpa/P. balsamifera), as well as Sitka spruce (Picea sitchensis), though it may have pest problems.
For sunny wet areas with shallow water there are, of course, emergent plants such as the aggressive cattails (Typha latifolia) and many species of rushes and sedges.

Hard Suspension in the Wet..? - DubForce.net
Right in the wet is it more difficult to drive a car with stiff suspension that has little travel, than one with standard suspension setup..?
If you have soft suspension when you go round corners the outside springs gradually compress so not overloading the tyres and there is more warning of when your tyres are gonna slip out..
In the dry, it was mental around the twisty bits, but in the wet it was totally unpredictable 'cos it just let go, there was no warning at all...

I seem to remember reading a while ago about some top-spec Mercedes which, when the rain-sensitive wipers told the ECU it was raining, VERY lightly applied the brakes to skim the water off the discs from time-to-time, just in case you needed to use them in a hurry.
Especially when driving for some distance on the motorway in the wet.
